URUGUAY, A South American country known for its verdant interior and beach-lined coast.
A guide below of some of my top things to do, how to get around and also a few things I plan to do on future layovers .
Ticked another Country off the list ~ January 2017
Day Trip from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Colonia, Uruguay.
I used BUQUEBUS – A return Ferry crossing on the Fast Boat cost NZD$135.00 (this can change depending on how full the boat is, so if you are flexible look for the dates with the best pricing)
It takes only 1 hour to cross, so not long at all~ We took the 8.15am departure and the 8pm return.
Maybe a little too long in Colonia, so I would probably book the 4pm to come back next time.
When we arrived we went to the Thrifty Rentals and hired a golf cart for the day – SO MUCH FUN!
Seriously haven’t laughed that much in a long time!!!
Only NZD$85 for the whole day, so split that between a few people and its totally worth it.
You will need one person with a licence and a credit card. Also, FYI …. you are driving on the other side of the road – Good-luck !
BARRIO HISTORICA is the beautiful historic area with all the stunning buildings, cobbled roads etc. A Photographers Paradise – wish I had taken a better camera with me, its such a stunning place! Literally 5minutes from the Ferry Terminal and some stunning places to eat amongst it all. Live Music etc .
Try find the Bull Ring! Pretty Impressive, and takes up a bit of time and laughs exploring on the golf cart!
Just get lost exploring, its such a fun day trip. Highly Recommend.
Also – they accept Argentinian Peso over there – added bonus.
Next time I’m hoping to visit Montevideo to tick off more of Uruguay 🙂
I’ll share that with you too when I get there!
