PERTH , Western Australia
A guide below of some of my top things to do, places to eat/drink, how to get around and also a list of things I plan to do on future layovers with posts to follow!
TOP THINGS TO DO IN PERTH
Also known as Kangaroo Island.
A short stroll along the waterfront of Swan River from our hotel located on Adelaide Terrace you will come across this island home to a few rescued Kangaroos!
You will need to keep your eyes peeled and stroll around the island quietly, looking off the beaten track and you are sure to come across these beautiful animals.
Check out my post on Heirisson Island for more pictures and information.
JACOBS LADDER STAIRS
Located at the end of Cliff Street which marks the boundary of Kings Park. The descent will take you down to Mounts Bay Road. Feel like one of the locals and join in on this fitness fanatics playground!
Every time I am in Perth I make the effort to get up early and run these nearly 300 Stairs as many times as I can, before my legs turn to jelly!
Check out my post on Jacobs Ladder Stairs for more pictures and information.
Take the Train from Perth through to Fremantle for an afternoon or day out of Perth. Only 30minutes travel time and $4AUD each way makes this a very accessible and affordable day trip!
Fremantle is a very walkable city and there is a free shuttle bus service called the CAT, similar to the free bus services in Perth.
Check out my post on Fremantle for more pictures and suggestions of where to eat and drink!
One of the world’s largest and most beautiful inner city parks.
Kings Park is home to the spectacular Western Australian Botanic Garden, displaying over 3,000 species of the State’s unique flora.
Two thirds of the 400 hectare park is protected as bushland.
Visitors can enjoy sweeping views of the Swan and Canning Rivers, the city skyline and the Darling Ranges to the east.
Bushland walk trails, immaculate gardens and parklands and a variety of children’s discovery play areas can all be found in Kings Park.
A perfect way to spend your day !
Ticking off more of my Perth Layover bucket list.
A day trip across to Rottnest Island is an absolute MUST.
Pristine Beaches, Abundant Marine Life, Island Vibes and Quokkas!!
If this picture below doesn’t entice you, I dont know what will!

RECOMMENDED PLACES TO EAT & DRINK
HEALTH FREAK CAFE KINGS PARK
My absolute Go-To Cafe when I visit Perth. A morning run along the waterfront, a number of times up and down the stairs and then pop in to see Victoria for breakfast at Health Freak! This is the PERFECT way to start your day.
Jacobs Ladder is a must for every fitness fanatic, and with Health Freak located at the bottom of the stairs, it would be rude not to pop in for breakfast!
My Breakfast option of choice:
ACAI BOWL (VGN, DF, NA)……$11.95
Acai topped with macadamia cranberry muesli, fresh banana and strawberries. And I ALWAYS add the Cocowhip too.
Quoted from Health Freaks website –
“Cocowhip is a frozen soft serve created using only coconut water – making it a gluten free, vegan and dairy free dessert. One serve has the equivalent probiotics to 20 cups of yoghurt”
Go on ! Try it!
You will not regret it =)
Travel for Free Perth, Fremantle & Joondalup on the Perth CAT (Central Area Transit) Buses.
You may get on and off them as often as you like without paying a fare.
Click Here to check out the website for timetables and colour coding of these Free Buses!
Perth also offers Train and ferry services too! This makes it a very accessible city with various means of travel to suit your needs.
Uber is also widely available in Perth CBD should you wish to use it!
